Retro Shoot showcased on Style Me Pretty

In June, a few vendors and I got together and did a stylized photo shoot with a retro 1950's theme.  We were fortunate enough to be showcased on Style Me Pretty blog.  I don't have much to say than to please check out the site and leave us a comment on how much you love our work.  BDE designed the table scape, provided the chairs, table, table cloth, napkins (sewed them myself!), place settings and the 1963 Falcon.  For anyone interested, we do rent out this car for events and photo shoots.  Enjoy!!!!

Betsy and Jim

As we were making the move from Georgia to Austin, Leah from The Life You Love Photography in Austin asked me if I would be available to coordinate a wedding 2 weeks after moving.  Leah had shot my own wedding two years ago and we knew we both worked well together.  I spoke with Betsy from Georgia and she took a great leap in hiring an out of towner!  Her wedding was fabulous and the location just stunning!  Take a look at the pictures from Leah on her own blog post.  I just love this one picture though.  Had to share it!! You can see the love and admiration from Jim as he first laid eyes on his beautiful bride.  Betsy was an awesome bride who had tons of detail....just my style!  Their guests were fun and the party atmosphere was electric.  One of my favorite weddings so far!!

Super Cute Idea Brides!!

Hello brides!  I have a great idea for you DIY ladies out there! Your Fonts will take your handwriting and make it into a font for you!  So awesome for favors, place cards, programs, save the dates, you name it!

This is even a great idea for normal DIY projects outside of weddings.  Pre-printed stationary with your child's handwriting for a sweet card to grandparents.  Just add some fun finger painting and you have a cherished memory!   Or you can have a placard made for over your front door with the signature of all the family members.  Or how about your kid's names in their handwriting for important back to school items that need to be personalized?  Backpacks, lunch boxes, water bottles.  I just LOVE this idea!

And as an side, my husband said he would love this idea too....if he had nice handwriting!  See, even the men (or Groom's!) can enjoy this nifty tool.

A dichotomy of emotions

Weddings bring me so much joy, not just because of the obvious happiness between the couple and their families, but because of the role that I get to play for one day. These people hire me, trust in me, and let me control their wedding day. I love every second of my time with them. Seeing them vow their lives to each other and seeing the joy from their friends and family make standing up for 10 hours straight and dealing with difficult people so worth it. Having guests, people I've never met before tell me I did a great job is not what keeps me going. It's seeing the couple share their first kiss, witnessing the first dance, crying along with the toasts, and experiencing the bittersweet goodbye between father and daughter.

Weddings also bring me a sense of sadness. I get truly upset when the night ends. I hate seeing the bride and groom leave. I know all of the hard work they put into their day and it all goes by so fast. They say to take in every moment of your wedding because it all flies by so fast. That couldn't be more true. I do the same and take in every moment of this day that I have been allowed to participate in. There is a genuine feeling of sadness and a sense of loss when the night comes to an end. I enjoy seeing the professional pictures that the bride and groom will send to me after the wedding. This brings back all the memories and I get to see the day again through a different set of eyes. I always try to meet with the bride after the wedding, just for coffee or lunch. We get to go through the day again and I get to see how she is adjusting to married life.

I enter this person's life momentarily, and sometimes that will be the end of the relationship, but I know that there will always be a bond over the day we shared. And that makes me happy.

Day of Coordinating

So lately, I have noticed that many of my brides say that other event planners in the area won't offer one service that I have specialized in. That is the Day of Coordinating service. This is where the bride plans her wedding herself and I step in at the last minute to coordinate the actual wedding day. Below is a description of everything I do for the bride and groom on their wedding day:

Designed for clients who are through the planning process, but need a little extra help to ensure their wedding day goes smoothly.
  • Contact and coordinate with vendors prior to wedding day to confirm details
  • Organize wedding procession outline, assistance at rehearsal evening before, directing rehearsal if necessary
  • Early arrival on wedding day to ensure proper arrangements are in place (candles, programs, flowers, music, etc.)
  • Ensure wedding party and family have appropriate flowers prior to ceremony
  • Organize and direct ceremony
  • Prepare itinerary for the entire day so that no detail gets forgotten
  • Set up place cards, favors, accessories, menus, table décor, flowers, etc.
  • Ensure tables are set appropriately
  • Greet and direct guests for guest book sign-in and gift placements
  • Oversee timing of events for introductions, first dance, toast, bouquet and garter toss, cake cutting, food and beverage service, etc.
  • Collect toasting glasses, cake cutting set, gifts, etc. at the end of the evening
  • Personally assist the bride and groom for the entire day
  • Provide a Wedding Emergency Kit—everything the bride will need
  • Eight hours of wedding day assistance so you can enjoy your day!
Keep this valuable and BUDGET FRIENDLY service in mind!!
